HISTORY:

Rasa Devon Rex was born Devonshire (England) in the send half of XX-th century. Devons were the natural mutation of domestic cat, fully independent from Cornish Rex race. Cats resembling Devons were first seen in 30-ties in Europe. However the first true Devon’s litter of curly-haired kittens were born when a tomcat Kirlee (ancestor of Devon race) was interbred with his own curly-haired daughter. Breeders tried to interbreed Kirle with Cornish catkin before but their children looked like ordinary domestic cats with sleek fur. Devons were first presented at cat contest in 1965 and were recognized by GCCF as a distinct race in the year of 1967.

Devon's temper:

Devons are very social cats. They are very curious, intelligent and adventurous. They want to examine every new situation in their surroundings. Devons love to accompany us in all house activities, and do not want to miss any important event. They accompany man even during the night, sleeping in the hollow places, example nestling between our legs. When we are working at the computer, they like to sleep on the monitor. However, when something displease them, Devons can take offence and with proud dignity demonstrate their displease. But this bad mood do not last for very long. We just need to apologize nicely and our cat with a resounding purr announce that is not angry any more.

Devons are very independent and clean, so their breeding is not very troublesome for owner. They learn to use a cuvet very fast. They move with grace and are very dexterous. Devons love to run and play, and are great jumpers and climbers. They are very gentle and tolerant cats, even when playing with small children. Moreover, Devons develop a strong attachment to their owners. It is almost inevitable that everybody who see a Devon will want to know this cat better. Then a man who was acquainted with them could not to fall in love with Devons.

BUDOVA DEVONA:

General look:

At the first glance Devons are very elegant cats with harmonic body structure. Their bodies are strong wit apparent muscles but not athletic. They are middle-sized cats - adult Devons weight is about 5 to 8 pounds. Their chest is wide, legs are long and thin. Paws of their forelegs are short and round-shaped while rear legs are longer.

Head:

Devon’s head is wedge-shaped with wide checks. They have a short face with strong chin. Their nose is short with apparent septum (bottom of nose). Their whiskers and eyebrows are curled and often very short.

Ears:

Devon’s ears, covered with delicate fur, are wide at the bottom, start very low and are rounded at the top.


Eyes:

Devon’s eyes are large, rounded, almond-shaped. Located in some distance from each other are clear and shinning.




Tail:

Devon’s tail is long, thin and needle-pointed. It is coated with fur but not pussy.


Fur:

Devon’s fur is short and curly, very soft and delicate. Their hair undulate and some needle shaped hairs are possible. All colors of fur are acceptable, with as many white insertions as you wish.
